Brian Moore | After Dinner And Speaking Engagements
An unconventional character, Brian 'Pitbull' Moore is a former rugby union player who was born in 1962. He is a well educated man who is well known for his variety of achievements both on and off the rugby pitch. Famous for his gap-toothed smile, Brian was born in Birmingham, but moved to Halifax as a child. He went to the Crossley and Porter School and it was for the Old Crossleyans that he first played rugby union.
Playing Career
Brian studied for a degree in law at Nottingham University and in 1984 he graduated with an LLB(Honours). During his university years he played as an amateur senior for Nottingham. It was during this time that Brian gained his first England cap in 1988 and this was shortly followed by a Lions tour of Australia.
In 1990 he relocated to London in order to train as a solicitor. It was during this time that he joined the Harlequins. He remained in the south east and later on finished his career at another London club - local rivals Richmond.
Not the tallest of players, Brian worked hard on the technical aspects of the game and became an extremely effective player. He had great speed and handled the ball well making him comfortable both in open ground and the scrums, rucks and mauls.
Brian represented England a total of sixty four times between the years of 1987 and 1995 making him one of the most capped players ever. He played in three rugby world cups and in 1991 he was voted the Whitbread Rugby World Player of the Year.
